matt emulsion, sand & spray paint on wood
July 2022
13 x 22.5 inches

my initial aim was to experiment with techniques of using white to create form, contour and texture effectively by mixing white matt emulsion and sand which gave very minimal tonal value to the white paint.
the light tonal values created by the natural pink shades of sand started a gradient that  i wanted to continue.  So I decided to see how wet emulsion would mix with spray paint in uncontrolled conditions. moisture and the reactions of emulsion, water based spray paint and sand ( & i) worked together to achieve this.
