oil paint & sand on wood board
A free woman came as a reminder that it is less about seeking form and more about embodying a feeling, which leads to true art. freedom comes in many forms, and it is not always as sweet as one expects.
While I found a figure striding as though in rejoice, it was out of strokes carved into a darker palette in harsh scrapes. this paradox was true to the personal experience of creating this work.
Similar to Age 2 Rage, a palette knife was used to shape thickened paint taking a gestural approach to abstracting the human form.
the elasticity afforded to the oils and pigment, due tot he use of sand, was particularly satisfying.
